The Nagarkot Day Hike is a popular adventure in Nepal, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas and a chance to explore the natural beauty of the region. This hike starts from Changu Narayan Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site located near Kathmandu, and takes you through picturesque landscapes, charming villages, and lush forests. The ultimate destination is Nagarkot, a hilltop village renowned for its panoramic vistas of the Himalayan range, including Mount Everest on a clear day. This day hike provides an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, witness stunning sunrise or sunset views, and experience the local culture along the way.
We will start the day by driving from Kathmandu to Changu Narayan Temple. The temple is located around 20 kilometers east of Kathmandu. The drive will take you through the scenic countryside, passing by traditional villages, terraced fields, and lush greenery. Enjoy the views along the way as you make your way to the temple.
Changu Narayan Temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest temples in Nepal. Take your time to explore the temple complex and marvel at its intricate wood and stone carvings. Admire the pagoda-style architecture and learn about the history and cultural significance of the temple. You can also enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding countryside from the temple premises.
After visiting Changu Narayan Temple, begin your hike towards Nagarkot. The trail starts from the temple and takes you through scenic landscapes, including terraced fields, forests, and small villages. Enjoy the tranquility of nature as you make your way uphill. Along the way, you’ll have opportunities to interact with friendly locals and experience the local culture.
Once you reach Nagarkot, take some time to explore the village and enjoy the panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest on clear days. Afterward, start your descent back to the starting point. The trail will lead you downhill through beautiful landscapes and local communities. Once we reach our end point, we will drive you back to your hotel.
We highly recommend having traditional dishes like dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), momo (dumplings), and local teas. It will replenishing your energy for the journey.
