On the first day, you will start your journey from Pokhara and drive to Kande, which is approximately a 1-hour drive. Kande is the starting point for the trek to Mardi Himal. From Kande, you will begin your trek towards Forest Camp, passing through Pitam Deurali along the way.
The trail from Kande initially ascends through lush forests and charming villages. As you hike, you’ll be treated to beautiful views of the Annapurna and Mardi Himal ranges. After walking for several hours, you will reach Pitam Deurali, a scenic resting point. Here, you can take a break, enjoy the surroundings, and refuel with snacks or drinks.
Continuing your trek from Pitam Deurali, you will proceed through the dense forest, walking on a well-defined trail. The path gradually ascends, and you’ll encounter various flora and fauna along the way. After approximately 5-6 hours of trekking, you will reach Forest Camp, your destination for the day. Forest Camp is a serene and peaceful place surrounded by rhododendron and oak forests. You can rest, enjoy the tranquility, and spend the night at one of the tea houses or lodges in the area.
On the second day, you will leave Forest Camp and continue your trek towards High Camp. This part of the trek offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks and a more challenging terrain compared to the previous day.
As you ascend from Forest Camp, the trail becomes steeper and more rugged. You will pass through enchanting forests, where you might spot various bird species and wildlife. The path opens up to panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains, including Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli.
After trekking for around 4-5 hours, you will reach High Camp, situated at an altitude of approximately 3,580 meters (11,745 feet). High Camp offers spectacular views of the Annapurna range, and it is the last point for accommodation before reaching Mardi Himal Base Camp. Rest and acclimatize at one of the tea houses or lodges in High Camp, preparing for the next day’s trek.
On the third day, you will embark on a thrilling trek from High Camp to Badal Danda, passing through Mardi Himal Base Camp along the way. This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the trek, offering mesmerizing views of the Mardi Himal and its surrounding peaks.
The trail from High Camp ascends steeply towards Mardi Himal Base Camp, situated at an altitude of approximately 4,500 meters (14,760 feet). Along the way, you will trek through alpine meadows, rocky paths, and possibly encounter some snow depending on the season.
Upon reaching Mardi Himal Base Camp, you will be greeted by breathtaking vistas of the Annapurna range, Mardi Himal, and Machhapuchhre. Take your time to absorb the majestic beauty of the surroundings and capture memorable photographs.
From Mardi Himal Base Camp, you will descend to Badal Danda, which is at an elevation of around 3,200 meters (10,500 feet). Badal Danda offers stunning views of the entire Annapurna sanctuary and the vast Himalayan landscape. Spend the night at one of the lodges or tea houses in Badal Danda.

Enjoy the scenic drive, reflecting on your memorable trekking experience in the Mardi Himal region. Once you arrive in Pokhara, you can rest, relax, and celebrate the successful completion of your trek.
The difficulty level of the Mardi Himal Trek can be considered moderate to moderately challenging. While it is not as strenuous as some of the more rigorous treks in the region, it still requires a reasonable level of physical fitness and endurance. Here are some factors to consider when evaluating the difficulty of the Mardi Himal Trek:
1. Terrain: The trek involves a variety of terrains, including well-defined trails, steep ascents, and occasional sections with loose rocks and uneven surfaces. There are some challenging uphill sections, particularly as you approach High Camp and Mardi Himal Base Camp. The trail can also be slippery, especially during monsoon season or when there is snow.
2. Altitude: While the maximum altitude reached during the Mardi Himal Trek is not as high as some other popular treks in the region, such as the Annapurna Circuit or Everest Base Camp, you still ascend to around 4,500 meters (14,760 feet) at Mardi Himal Base Camp. This means that altitude-related factors should be taken into account, including acclimatization and the potential for altitude sickness.
3. Duration and Distance: The Mardi Himal Trek typically takes around 5-7 days to complete, depending on the itinerary chosen. Each day involves several hours of trekking, with the average daily walking time ranging from 4 to 7 hours. The total distance covered during the trek is approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles), varying slightly depending on the specific route and side excursions.
4. Weather Conditions: The weather and seasons can influence the difficulty of the trek. The best time to undertake the Mardi Himal Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons when the weather is generally favorable with clear skies and stable conditions. Winter treks (December to February) can be more challenging due to colder temperatures and the possibility of snowfall. Monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rainfall, making the trail muddy and slippery.
5. Experience and Preparation: Prior trekking experience is not essential for the Mardi Himal Trek, but a basic level of fitness, endurance, and preparation will contribute to a more enjoyable experience. Regular physical exercise, including cardiovascular activities and strength training, can help prepare your body for the trek. It is also recommended to consult with a healthcare professional and consider a gradual acclimatization schedule.
While the Mardi Himal Trek presents some challenges, it is generally considered suitable for trekkers with a moderate level of fitness and a spirit of adventure. With proper preparation, a positive mindset, and adherence to safety guidelines, most people can successfully complete the trek and revel in the breathtaking beauty of the Mardi Himal region.
To do Mardi Himal Trek, you will need to obtain two permits: the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekker’s Information Management System (TIMS) card. These permits are necessary to ensure the conservation and management of the Annapurna region and to maintain accurate records of trekkers in the area.
The best time to go on an Mardi Himal Trek is during the pre-monsoon (spring) and post-monsoon (autumn) seasons. The recommended months are as follows:
1. Spring (March to May): This is considered the best time to trek the Annapurna Circuit. The weather is generally clear and stable, with mild temperatures and blooming rhododendron forests, adding vibrant colors to the landscapes. The visibility is excellent, offering breathtaking views of the mountains.
2. Autumn (September to November): Another ideal time for the Annapurna Circuit Trek. The weather is cool and dry, with stable conditions. The skies are usually clear, providing magnificent views of the mountains and landscapes. The trails are bustling with trekkers, and the overall atmosphere is lively.
During these seasons, you can expect favorable weather conditions, less chance of rainfall, and moderate temperatures, making it comfortable for trekking. However, it’s important to note that weather patterns can vary, and it is always recommended to check the local weather forecast and consult with experienced guides or trekking agencies before planning your trek.
During the trek, you will be provided with modest and sanitary meals. It is recommended to opt for local cuisine, which is usually more hygienic than frozen or imported foods. Traditional Nepalese dishes like Dal Bhat (lentils and rice) are highly recommended as they provide the necessary carbohydrates and protein for trekking at high altitudes. Other options include Sherpa stew (Syakpa), seasonal vegetables, momo (dumplings), local cereals like barley, buckwheat, and millet, as well as noodles, sandwiches, and bakery products. It is advisable to avoid dairy and cheese products, alcoholic beverages, caffeinated drinks, and hot chocolates at higher altitudes.
Accommodation during the trek includes a range of options to suit different budgets. Teahouses and lodges are available along the route, offering comfortable amenities such as mattresses with cushions, electric blankets, hot and cold showers, and free Wi-Fi. The rooms are typically shared by two people and include basic furniture like a mattress, blanket, and pillow. If you prefer separate rooms, arrangements can be made accordingly.
